The General

Proverbs 22:1
A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

As Father's Day approaches, I thought I would blog a little about our general contractor (who happens to be my dad).  We appreciate all his work on this project and the time he spends fretting about all the details.  When this house project was in the discussion stage, the fact that my dad had so many years of experience in construction made our plan just about perfect.

It is said that you can save 20% - 30% by being your own general contractor.  I don't know if we will ever know how much, if any, we have saved but we do know we are having a quality home built by my father.  His heart is really in this project and he wouldn't have it any other way.  One of the biggest benefits we have seen is the relationships he has with people.  He is well known and respected in the community.  Our subs really like working with him and I know in many cases we have gotten a little "extra" because they were doing it for Bob.  When we were kids he made a really big deal about our name and the kind of reputation we were building.  Clearly for him it has paid off to be an honest, reasonable, hardworking man that treats people right.

I can't believe it but my dad will be 76 years old in November.  He works so hard and we appreciate all that he is doing for us.  He has been a faithful Christian, husband and father for over half a century. There is no one we would trust more building our home.  If you are thinking that I think a lot of my dad, you are right, he is about 8 feet tall in my eyes!  Thanks Dad.....and Happy Father's Day, I love you!
